ACCION International's new global guarantee fund - The Global Bridge Fund was introduced in January 2005 with the purpose of contributing to the expansion of micro finance throughout the world.
The fund operates in a similar way to that of its predesessor, the Latin America Bridge Fund. Funds to the Global Bridge Fund will be used as collateral for irrevocable standby letters of credit and/or similar financial guarantees issued by Citibank in favor of microfinance institutions.
The fund was designed to support microfinance institutions located in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and other regions of the world where ACCION may expand as part of its strategic mission. The fund guarantees not only short-term lines of credit but also the issuance, by the micro finance institutions, of short-term fixed-income instruments
The pipeline of guarantees to be issued by the fund amounts to $2,000,000. Ocultar

The ACCION Global Bridge Fund is a guarantee vehicle that uses loans from socially responsible investors to provide microfinance institutions with guarantees to access bank lines of credit and to issue debt instruments. The guarantees are issued on a global basis primarily to members of the ACCION network and other select microfinance institutions that are affiliated to organizations with which ACCION has developed a long-standing business relationship.
