Global Partnerships Social Investment Fund 2010 (SIF 2010) is a $25 million fund composed of philanthropic capital leveraged by socially motivated investment capital from qualified individual and institutional investors. SIF 2010 makes affordable loans to select microfinance organizations (MFIs) and cooperatives in Latin America, GP’s partners, prioritizing partners that reach people most in need of credit, such as the rural poor, and which provide borrowers with not just microloans but "microfinance-plus" services such as preventive health care, business education and agricultural training. Seventy-five percent of organizations funded by SIF 2010 must provide borrowers with non-financial services beyond microloans. The fund closed in September 2010 at $20 million (http://www.globalpartnerships.org/sections/newsinfo/newsinfo_nr_GP_sif_2... ) and added $5 million more in April 2011 (http://www.globalpartnerships.org/sections/newsinfo/newsinfo_nr_GP_fmo_i...).
