The Republic of Srpska Investment-Development Bank (IRBRS) was founded on 6 December 2006 pursuant to the Law on the Republic of Srpska Investment-Development Bank. The Bank is registered as a joint-stock company which is 100% ownership of the Republic of Srpska. Strategic goals of IRBRS are encouragement of investments and stimulation of development in the Republic of Srpska. Besides, the role of IRBRS is professional and efficient management of assets of the Republic of Srpska, which are formally and legally registered in 6 Funds. IRBRS is not a commercial bank by its nature, i.e. according to the Law, it does not have the right to collect deposits nor to give gaurantees, thus it is not under the jurisdiction of the Banking Agency of the Republic of Srpska. IRBRS is not going to invest funds earmarked for development projects directly, but rather through a network of commercial banks and microcredit organizations. In some projects it will be supported by international financial institutions such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, etc. IRBRS is going to focus its activities on financing of the projects which are important for the national economy and which were of no interest to the private sector, because they do not make a direct profit (e.g. infrastructure) or demand large investments or are very risky. That means that IRBRS does not want to compete with the private capital, but rather to be complementary to commercial banks and microcredit organizations. Ocultar
