BACKGROUND:

Programme for Community Development (PCD) is a local Non-Government organization initiated by some courageous people in the year 1986 in order to enhance the socio-economic status of the grass root people in rural villages. It started in development activities at Purbotiartola under Mulgram Union of Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna district.

Programme for Community Development (PCD) undertook a number of development Programmes for its target people utilizing the organization's own resources and funds. In 1993 PCD strengthened its activities and included more interventions like institution building, savings, income and employment generating activities, environment, water & sanitation, agriculture, marketing & food-processing etc. and simultaneously expanded its area of operation.

Subsequently, to meet the local demand and improve the status of the disadvantaged groups in the community, PCD undertook the following programmes: Livelihoods, Empowerment and Agro-Forestry (LEAF) Project, Microcredit, resources mobilization, training programme, water & sanitation etc.

In the reporting year 2006, PCD was able to change the socio-economic status of target marginal and poor people in the working area by successful implementation of the above project and programme.

To implement all the programme PCD always consider the poverty alleviation issue and take necessary action to successfully implement the programme.
