The SANASA Development Bank Ltd. (SDBL) is an
institution that stands separate from traditional financial
institutions due to its unique vision, practices and the fact
that it is owned largely by Sanasa societies spread
throughout the country and by hundreds of thousands of
Sanasa members.
Like any other development bank, SDBL also focuses
on deposit mobilisation and lending. However, special
attention is paid to products and services that cater to the
Bank’s main customers, namely the Sanasa movement,
the co-operative movement, community based
organisations and NGO’s. Naturally, the strengths,
experiences and stature gathered over a century’s
engagement with thrift and credit co-operation makes
SDBL the pre-eminent specialist in the field of
micro-finance.
The Bank, since its inception, has taken as a matter of
priority the task of uplifting the lives of low-income
communities in both urban and rural areas. The Bank is
committed to empower both economically and socially
through its financial products and services such people
who are typically thrust in the ‘high risk’ category and
