SPBD’s mission is to improve the quality of life of poor families in Samoa by providing training, unsecured credit and ongoing guidance and motivation to help them start, grow and sustain small businesses. As a financially self-sustaining organization, SPBD Samoa has become an organization permanently dedicated to serving the financial needs of the poor of Samoa.
SPBD was established to help empower the women of Samoa by providing them access to financial products and services that they can use to promote their microenterprises. SPBD Microfinance (Samoa) Ltd. will continue to reach more clients in the rural areas and expand its urban operation by providing a range of loans and savings products tailored to the changing needs of its market. South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) in Samoa is the flagship microfinance institution in the SPBD network. Founded in 2000 by Gregory F. Casagrande, SPBD is the leading and first successful microenterprise development organization in the Pacific Islands. In Samoa, SPBD maintains a dominant market share (>95%) for small, unsecured micro-enterprise development loans. Since its inception, SPBD has disbursed over 31,000 loans to Samoan women amounting to over WST 37 Million in over 415 villages across Samoa. SPBD has since expanded to the neighboring Pacific Island countries of Tonga (2009) and Fiji (2010).
SPBD was originally registered as a charitable entity in the Independent Republic of Samoa in 2000. As of October 31, 2011, SPBD Foundation transformed from a charitable entity into a for-profit Non-Banking Financial Institution (NBFI) named SPBD Microfinance (Samoa) Ltd. Ocultar
