Africa Village Financial Services s.c (AVFS) is the outcome of the saving and credit for the enterprise development program (SCED) developed by Africa Village Academy (AVA) a local NGO. The SCED program was started in 1993 by the private fund of the AVA Executive Director. The 1996 proclamation Number 40/96 allowed the SCED program to move on and become organized as an MFI namely the Africa Village financial services share company. AVFS was registered as a private share company on november 6, 1998 with a paid up share capital of birr 200,000.00. It is licensed by the National Bank of Ethiopia, which is the supervisory body for all MFIs.
