Objectifs:
ADEMI's mission is to create new jobs and to increase personal and family income by strengthening microenterprise in the Dominican Republic, mainly by giving loans and by providing technical assitance.

The Association for the Development of Microenterprise "ADEMI" was established by a group of Dominican businessmen in 1983 who donated the start-up capital, later receiving support in form of loans and grants from local government, USAID, IDB, GTZ , EIB and other commercial banks. It became obvious in 1997 that ADEMI had become much more than a Micro-credit NGO. It had long reached operational self-sufficiency and its capital was already surpassing 5 of the 12 existing commercial banks. Monetary authorities and international organizations all backed the transformation of ADEMI into a Development Bank which came into effect in January 1998. ADEMI based its methodology on a nontraditional model. The average loan size is under DR$ 30,000 (US$ 1,800 equivalent). The maximum amount to be lent to a microenterprise is US$ 35,000; the small and medium enterprise loans range from US$ 35,000 to US$ 300,000. For working capital the loans terms average 24 months and are paid in equal monthly installements. For fixed assets, the average term is 24 moths; and for small enterprises the loan terms range from 36 to 60 months. ADEMI's main clients are micro and small enterprises that have been operating for at least six months. ADEMI's client of microenterprises manages units oriented towards production, service and retailing. Food, clothing carpentry, shoes, metalworking, printing, mechanical repair shops and handicrafts are among the most important activities. Their net worth generally fluctuates between US$ 1,000 - US$ 20,000 and they employ from 2 to 10 employees. Cacher
