The mission of Fundo de Credito Comunitario (FCC) is to strengthen opportunities for traders and small producers by providing efficient and innovative financial services. The vision of FCC is two-fold: A community that is developed holistically--economically, socially, and spiritually--and a national institution that is sustainable and profitable with the capacity to respond to the needs of clients, staff, and investors. Flowing from this mission and vision are the goals of a) achieving a broad and deep outreach with significant impact that facilitates a transformation in the lives of many very poor people; and b) becoming a financially and operationally self-sufficient microfinance institution. FCC has spun off to become part of the newly established AfricaWorks.
Beginning operations in 1994 as part of World Relief Mozambique, FCC was one of the first microfinance programs launched following the civil war. FCC faced an enormous shortage of human capital and an extremely difficult physical operating environment in the rural areas where it focused its work. In 2000, Mozambique endured the worst floods seen in African in 50 years. These floods devastated many of FCC's primary operating areas. In 2001 and 2002, Mozambique and southern Africa went through a terrible drought, which has also worsened the agriculture-based economies of most of Mozambiques rural towns and villages. FCC has transitionned in a local institution in 2008 and will no longer report its activities. Cacher
