The fund seeks to provide its investors market conform investment returns, through its investment in emerging and fast-growing high-potential MFIs in Asia and Africa.
The fund invests in MFIs by means of equity or equity-linked financial instruments. The fund generally seeks to obtain at minimum a substantial minority equity interest in the MFIs it invests in. The fund is a closed-end fund with a term of ten years. It focuses on realising capital gains upon the sale or listing of each individual investment or portfolio of investments, which subsequently will be distributed to the investors.
CMI seeks to be instrumental in making microfinance a mainstream asset class, open to those interested in investing in emerging markets.
