PlaNIS was created with the aim of responding to the growing needs of the developing microfinance institutions and to link them with the best investors of the market and to provide them with tools usually used by and reserved to other markets.
To facilitate and finance its growth, PlaNIS has been spun off from PlaNet Finance as of June 2010 with the entrance of new shareholders (Impact Nord Sud Développement, a fund managed by Natixis Asset Management and Finaréa, an European private equity fund), becoming a dedicated subsidiary while benefiting of the presence and local knowledge of PlaNet Finance Group network.
In 2009, the PlaNIS team (13 employees) has met 300 microfinance institutions in 40 countries. Moreover, 70 investments proposals were drawn up and nearly USD 50 million lent to microfinance institutions. PlaNIS is monitoring a USD 165 million portfolio, coming from 7 funds, distributed between 75 microfinance institutions in 30 countries. 4 of those funds are managed by responsAbility; main partner of PlaNIS.
