SIDI's mission is to provide financial and technical support to local MFIs.

SIDI's objective is to provide financial support to microfinance institutions located in developing countries, which help those excluded from the formal banking sector. Through its activities, which are financed by shareholder capital and shared placement revenues, SIDI aims to promote the development of self-managed local institutions offering reliable demand-driven financial services. SIDI favors working with local development leaders who strive for the economic and human development of their people.

SIDI set itself geographical priorities in order to strengthen technical and financial support for local financial institutions in Africa, the Mediterranean basin and in the Caribbean.
