Seven employees of a local NGO "Villages in Partnership" started AWS in October 1994. It started its operations with the focus on integrated development services to the rural poor of Mahabubnagar district. Since its inception, the NGO had understaken various developmental programs like watershed programme, bore well irrigation, health, environment, and social awareness creation amongst rural communities.
AWS started forming self help groups (SHGs) between 1995 and 2003. It was one of the eight NGOs in the state to implement CARE's CASHE program, and from March 2003, the NGO-MFI started on lending activity with revolving loans received from CARE. Since then, it started focusing on microfinance and has condensed its work towards developmental activities. “Organise poor communities in to sustainable, member owned and managed groups and mobilise resources to address the investment and other social needs in a democratic and transparent process” Last year AWS is converted into a limited company as Nano Financial Services India Private Ltd. All the loans which are in AWS were shifted to Nano Financial Services India Private Ltd Hide
