CARD is an institution that comprises both NGO and a Bank. CARD NGO began its microfinance program in earnest in 1989 when it adapted the Grameen Bank lending methodology. In 1990, CARD formally launched the Grameen Bank replication program, entitled the Landless People's Development Fund (LPDF), as its credit arm. Since CARD inception, the ultimate vision of establishing a formal banking institution owned, controlled and managed by its landless rural members has always been the program's mission.
