CUMO is a non-profit rural microfinance institution providing financial services at village level to remote rural people in Malawi, particularly productive women. It was established in 2000 by Concern Universal, a United Kingdom registered international development and emergency relief organization founded in 1976 with country operations in Africa, Asia and South America. CUMO is currently operating in over 3,500 villages in 13 districts of Malawi and serving over 59,000 clients, 80% of whom are women. An active member of Malawian Microfinance Network, CUMO offers a range of products including farm inputs finance, off-farm micro-enterprise loans, funeral benefit and health benefit microinsurance, and, entrepreneurship training. Since its creation in 2000 CUMO has issued loans to more than 200,000 clients and positively impacted about 800,000 children of poor families. Hide
