The Relief Society of Tigray (REST) has been involved in development programs mainly in environmental rehabilitation and agricultural development, relief and social development, rural water supply and credit and saving services. These programs are aimed at helping the people of Tigray attain self-reliance based on the genuine participation of the people, by tackling and overcoming the root causes and effects of poverty through promoting sustainable rural development.
In 1994, REST implemented Rural Credit Scheme in Tigray, accessible and affordable micro financing services in the poor areas. When the Scheme’s operational coverage and client outreach was increasingly widened, institutional restructuring became indispensable. The Rural Credit Scheme was thus required to be registered under the National Bank Of Ethiopia and was allowed by law to form a micro financing institution. Accordingly the Rural Credit Scheme was changed into a new institutional form under the name “Dedebit Credit And Savings Institution S. C” or, in short, DECSI since March 1997.
DESCI is now considered as an important agent of development that caters micro financing (credit and saving) services for the rural and urban poor in the Tigray region of Ethiopia. Hide

(c) Agricultural Package Loans
These are loans provided to the rural household farmers who are embraced by the Agricultural Package Program to achieve food security at household level and alleviate poverty. The loan is provided for financing package activities such as dairy cows, dairy goats, modern beehives, water pump and treadle pump, poultry, livestock fattening, etc.

(a) Compulsory Deposits of group and center savings;
(b) Voluntary Deposits from loan clients and the public at large.
Pension Payment
The pension payment service is provided to retired military and civil personnel.
Money Transfer
DECSI is planning to undertake Money Transfer services in few months.
