Findev was started in 1997 as a savings and credit project (later Future Financial Institution Project) by Oxfam GB International Humanitarian Organization after the results of the survey conducted among the people affected by war and economic decline revealed unmet demand for financial resources. The long-term objective of the project financed by Novib (the Netherlands), a member of Oxfam International, was to establish a sustainable financial institution that would serve poor and vulnerable people in order to improve their living conditions and enable them to carry economic responsibility for their lives themselves independent of humanitarian aid. The project performed successfully and in 2002 registered as an independent entity. Findev implements its lending activities based on the lisence from the National Bank of Azerbaijan Republic and according to the founder's (Oxfam) policy framework. The scope of the organization's activities now covers 11 regions of the country and is growing in terms of area, borrowers and loan portfolio. Hide
