The bank was incorporated in 1991 as Independent Community Bank Limited and commenced operations in 1992. The initial authorized share capital was N1.0 million. To comply with the Central Bank's sector reforms, the bank in 2007 increased its authorized and paid up share capital to N25 million. At the last AGM it was resolved that the share capital be further increased to N65 million.
