LBT has been working intensively in the District of Dhar (MP) in 40 villages and expnded its operations in 113 villages under its micro finance program. As a step towards economic empowerment women, LBT launched Micro Finance program in the district of Dhar in the year 2006 with the technical support of CARE India CAHSE - MP Project (Credit & Savings for Household Enterprises). This has given LBT an opportunity to address the fundamental challenge of increasing access of the poor to financial services through a sustainable financial institution in the area. Realizing a huge gap existing in the provision of financial services to poor in western Madhya Pradesh region, initiating micro-finance operations has been identified as our long term focus. Lok Biradari Trust has graduated its operations from SHG management to micro finance practice at a sizable scale in an effort to sustain the operation on long-term perspective. At present LBT is working in Badnawar, Sardarpur blocks (District Dhar) and Barnagar block (District Ujjain). It has planned to expand its operations towards Indore by the year 2008-09. LBT viewed women Self Help Groups and Joint Liability Groups (SHGs & JLGs) as effective tools to mobilize the community and to internalize the importance of micro-finance in poverty alleviation process. As per the projections the organization will reach over 20,000 poor women within first 3 years and help them to start the new or expand existing micro enterprises that would enhance their income levels. We are presently seeking financial linkages mainly for on-lending purpose to expand our operations in the target area. Hide
