Lack of financial services throughout the country is a major problem of economic development in Nepal. Half of the population lies below the poverty line, living in rural villages where there are no banking services and facilities. Eastern Nepal is the land of tea and other cash crops, but for cultivating these there is no financial support from the concerning sectors. Realizing the necessity of a financial institution in our community, Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. (NMCSL) was established in 1993 and registered under the Cooperative Act of 1992.
