Noakhali Rural Development Society (NRDS) is a private voluntary development organization aiming to empower the poorest segment of the society economically and socially through implementing socio-economic development activities. The organization has started its intervention in Greater Noakhali region from January 1992. NRDS has started to mobilize disadvantaged rural people especially the women and organize them under grass-root people’s organization in Noakhali sadar upazilla and Lakshmipur Sadar Upazilla of Noakhali and Lakshmipur district. From 1994, NRDS has started some economic development activities among the organized groups with its limited resource in both upazillas. In 1996, NRDS started an “Ecological Agriculture and Bio-intensive Homestead Gardening (EABIG)” Project with the financial support of DANIDA in Lakshmipur and Noakhali Sadar upazill and gradually extended the activities with Danida assistance in ten Upazillas with different interventions.
