PALFSI aims to enhance the effectiveness of existing livelihood program of the Diocese of Sorsogon in order to uplift the socio-economic conditions in Sorsogon by generating sustainable livelihood programs that would contribute to an increase in each Sorsogon family’s financial capabilities. PALFSI works to help the people of Sorsogon experience a better quality of life and grow in Christian maturity by bringing the clients closer to God and total human development through its services. Background and Main Challenges:
PALFSI was formally established in 1995 as a microfinance organization serving the poor in the province of Sorsogon. Initially an offshoot of the Food Transition Strategy (FTS) Program of the Social Action Center, PALFSI extends financial and technical assistance to the poor.

Livelihood Assistance is extended through providing credit to support clients’ income generating activities. Savings and Capital Formation Services are also provided to enhance credit worthiness of the members. Attached to the credit program is savings mobilization, which included voluntary and forced savings to build the clients’ capacity to save. Mutual Aid Fund serves as endowment fund in case of death of the client or any member of the clients’ family. Members’ Security Plan is provided to all clients for loan redemption, hospitalization and scholarship needs. Client Training is also provided to enhance the clients’ knowledge and skill in managing their microenterprises.
