Sewa Finance is the financing wing of Sewa Lanka Foundation, a local development NGO, formed in response to the Sewa Lanka Foundation's need to provide financial services including micro credit to its target members. Sewa Finance was incorporated in the year 2005 under the Companies Act 1987 as a Public Limited Company, and began operations in 2006, working primarily through established community based organizations and societies. The main challenges faced include: lack of awareness and knowledge at the beneficiary level, the risk of working in conflict affected regions, and the limited availability of start-up capital and funding.
