MFI Report

MFI “START” has been registered on April 25, 2002 in UNMIK Administration in Prishtina as a Local Non Governmental Organization. After the registration we start working, in cooperation with WOW MC Project, in four villages in Skenderaj Municipality, in Morinë, Rezallë, Abëri and Likofc. We have selected 21 women, which were interested to start some small family business. Those women were non-widows because the widows were under the WOW MC Project. Most of the businesses were the businesses, which were traditionally running by the women in this area, (as dairy cow, handicraft, chicken farm, small shops etc). Before of the registration we had already finished the assessments and on April 30, 2002 we started with the first disbursement of the loans. The total amount of those 21 loans is 19.000€. On July 17, 2002 “START” has been registered in Banking and Payment Authority of Kosovo (BPK) now is Central Bank Authority of Kosova (CBAK) in Prishtina, as a Micro Finance Institution and gets a License to work in credit business. After that we have start with the ordinary activities to find the needed borrowers for our Project in Skenderaj Municipality. In the beginning we informed the Authorities in Municipality and start to collect the database for all 52 villages in this Municipality. Hide
