Sudan Microfinance Institution (SUMI) opened for operations in Southern Sudan in July 2003. Funding was got from the USAID and the project was implemented by Chemonics International. From one branch in July, SUMI to date has five branches, over, 8,000 clients and three loans products. The main challenge facing the institution at the moment is access to Loan Capital Funds.
