Began as an NGO in 1996, now a company limited by guaratnee. Challenges include insufficient capital, cost of capital, legal framework, competition from formal financial intermediaries and donor driven NGOs, literacy levels of the beneficiaries, as well as existing poor savings and credit cultures.
