WWB Colombia - Cali was founded in 1982 by a group of professional and businesswomen, with the help of firms and other residents of the city of Cali, Colombia. During its 28 years of existence, it has received the support of the Women's World Banking Network, the IDB (Interamerican Development Bank), IFC (International Finance Corporation), GTZ, CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) and of various multilateral and technical cooperation institutions.
In February 2005, WWB Colombia entered the capital markets with its first bond issue in the Colombian Stock Exchange. The amount, in two tranches, was $120.000 million (US $52 million). The rating by Duff & Phelps was AA+ (AAA is the maximum rating).

Through an individual loan methodology based on a computerized information system, WWB Colombia has responded to the needs of the institution's clients in accordance with the local environment. These micro entrepreneurs, 67% of which are women, belong mainly to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strata of the population (this are the lowest income social levels) by which WWB Colombia reaffirms its vocation to work in favor of low-income women. The activities of the clients are in production (20%), sales (55%) and services (25%) sectors. WWB Colombia offers loans starting at US $50 with loans averaging US $1.100 at terms and rates fixed according to the type of business, offering simple procedures, personalized attention and collateral requirements according to the condition of each micro entrepreneur.
