The Center for Micro-Finance, established on July 21, 2000, as a private limited company under the Company Act, 1996, is managed by professionals, who have long experience with microfinance in Nepal and elsewhere. The shareholders of CMF, under the Company Act, are entitled to receive dividend but they unanimously resolved at their Second Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 14 January, 2003 not to receive it, but rather deploy dividends/profits for the development of microfinance for poverty reduction and womens empowerment in Nepal. It is, therefore, a not for profit organization.

In its original form, CMF was a project implemented by Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) funded by a grant provided by USAID and user fees paid by clients for the Centers services in response to a growing demand within Nepal for a national focal point dedicated to the rapidly expanding Micro- Finance sector.

CMF is now an autonomous, sustainable and wholly privately owned Nepali Company which is capable of providing technical services to strengthen the MF sector in Nepal and the region. The CMF Annual General Meeting has reelected Mr. G.B. Thapa as its Chairperson. CMF activities are implemented by a committed team with proven expertise in the field of Micro Finance.

The CMFs major activities include providing trainings, technical assistance and consutancy services. It also includes undertaking studies and research, documentations and publications.
