Read moreThe Community Microfinance Network is an informal grouping of South African not-for-profit institutions primarily committed to alleviating poverty by providing financial services to the poor, particularly the very poor. It includes microenterprise microcredit NGOs, informal savings and credit networks, and financial services co-operatives. It is a new initiative – not intended to replace any existing ones, but to provide a facility for interaction amongst, and raising awareness about, this specific group of South African institutions.
Services provided consist of:
Sectoral strengthening: Providing institutional space and resources for focused interaction between developmental MFIs, in order to strengthen their individual and collective development practise.
Advocacy: To define, document, and raise awareness of the activities of developmental MFIs in Southern Africa in order to influence relevant development discourses and policy processes.
Representation: To assist developmental MFIs to develop common positions on practical, policy, and regulatory issues affecting them, in order to participate in policy processes in a unified way. Sectoral strengthening: Providing institutional space and resources for focused interaction between developmental MFIs, in order to strengthen their individual and collective development practise.
