Gret (Groupe de Recherche et d’Echanges Technologiques) is a French NGO created in 1976. Gret works at the Interface between Research and Development in Dialogue with the
Government Authorities. We have been developing field projects for a dozen years that are systematically undertaken in partnership with local organizations or that lead to the creation of such organizations. Today, these projects represent two-thirds of our activities. Through network moderation and support for development and cooperation contracting authorities, we also contribute to elaborating public policies in developed and developing countries.
Our activities are organized around seven thematic clusters: Environment and Rural Development (EDR); Food Processing Commodity Chains and Nutrition (FAN); Microfinance; Urban Social Development and Commercial Utilities for Public Use (DSU - SPM); Business Development Services and Vocational Training (EFP); Information Services and Communication for Development (SICD); and Media.
Microfinance is the second cluster in terms of activity volume. GRET endeavors to establish sustainable MFIs that offer services suited to disadvantaged populations in developing countries. We provide support to existing institutions. We experiment with microcredit with the goal of creating new institutions. We also experiment with health microinsurance. At the same time, we support the definition of sectoral policies that provide a favorable framework for the development of microfinance We also contribute to practitioner capacity-building by producing, translating and/or disseminating reference documents. Furthermore, we created
a microfinance website in collaboration with CIRAD (Pole microfinancement). Hide
