While each program is designed to meet the specific needs of the local environment, all VITA programs emphasize the provision of financial services to disadvantaged and under-served populations. VITA’s goal is to create wealth by helping to expand economic opportunities, increasing employment and promoting local entrepreneurial initiatives. Typically, women represent the majority of clients.
In the last decade VITA has implemented microfinance programs in Benin, the Central African Republic, Chad, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, and South Africa and established some of the best MFIs in Africa and the Near East. These include Al Amana (Morocco), PRIDE/Finance (Guinea), VITA/PEP (Chad), and PADME and MicroBank/VITAL-Finance (Benin). VITA has also worked under farmer-to-farmer initiatives in Moldova and Ukraine to facilitate farmers’ and rural entrepreneurs’ access to credit.
