In response to the ever expanding role of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in poverty alleviation and economic development in poor communities, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) created the LINKS Learning Center in September 2003 to strengthen the capacities of MFIs in the Southeast, East Asia, and the Pacific region to provide high quality, sustainable financial services for the poor.
LINKS uses a demand-driven, client-led approach in facilitating its activities. LINKS engages in relationships based upon a shared vision of addressing the organizations immediate needs while concurrently seeking to address underlying causes and issues. This is accomplished by developing innovative, custom tailored initiatives, such as organizational assessments, technical assistance, trainings and workshops, and research and critical analysis.
LINKS activities are carried out in a manner that maximizes opportunities for collective learning and for the development of organizational and staff professionalism. At the core of its work, LINKS creates an enabling environment encouraging the exchange of ideas and the creation of processes for the regular review, documentation, and sharing of experiences. It leverages knowledge into tangible business benefits for microfinance institutions serving the poor.
LINKS partners with a diverse set of organizations including donors, non-governmental organizations, church foundations, cooperatives, credit unions, rural banks, and wholesale lending institutions. Hide
