The Southern Africa Microfinance & Enterprise Capacity Enhancement Facility (SAMCAF) is a regional non-governmental organization registered as a Trust in Zimbabwe. SAMCAF was founded in 1999 by three national associations of microfinance institutions (AMIZ of Zambia, MEA of South Africa and ZAMFI of Zimbabwe).
The number of national association members has increased to six since then and they include:
AMIZ of Zambia;
MEA of South Africa;
ZAMFI of Zimbabwe;
MAMN of Malawi;
RASME of Angola; and
JCC of Namibia
Our Vision is “Strong and sustainable institutions that provide financial and non-financial services to low-income households in the Southern African region”.
Our Mission is to “Enhance the institutional capabilities of microfinance institutions and business development service providers in order to promote the provision of high quality financial and non-financial services to low-income households on a sustainable basis”.
PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
The core products and services provided by SAMCAF to the microfinance and business development services industry include:
Collection, dissemination and sharing of relevant and up-to-date information on new developments and best practices in the industry.
Capacity building services (training and consulting)
Research
Our capacity building services cover, among others, the following range of topics:
Financial Management training (accounting, delinquency management, interest rate setting, and financial analysis).
Governance training.
Loan Officers training
Institutional assessments of MFIs and BDS providers & Operational risks management training
Assisting with development of Regulation and Supervision Laws for MFIs & Transformation of NGOs into regulated microfinance institutions
Assisting commercial banks set up microfinance programs
Establishment of new microfinance programs (both in rural and urban areas)
